Who is Spiral Maze?

There’s no time like the present for Spiral Maze, the new indie rock five-piece known for lowering the average age of every venue they play. Initially and rather casually formed during a group music lesson in their hometown of Austin, Texas, Spiral Maze has grown seemingly overnight from an after-school activity into a bona fide band. Debut single “Why Should I Care” arrived in August of 2023, showing off their playful songwriting, open-hearted lyricism, shameless embrace of late ‘60s psychedelia, and proud penchant for just the right amount of funky saxophone. Co-fronted by guitarist Zane Shieh and drummer Hannah Schlesinger, both 15, Spiral Maze is rounded out with 13-year-old Elena Rincon on lead guitar, 12-year-old Eamon Carroll on bass, and 12-year-old Jude Gomez on keys. It’s not that the band members are wise beyond their years, exactly, even considering their retro-leaning influences. But they are proof that rock ‘n’ roll alchemy has no age limit in either direction, and they’re smart enough not to let it pass them by – especially when the results are this irresistible.
